Dining at Wai is ultimately about one thing, and one thing only, enjoyment. Our food is prepared with much love and respect to create an enjoyable dining experience.

With time, attention, and craftsmanship our experienced and passionate kitchen team produce simple delicious food.

The kitchen at Wai makes everything from start to finish. Breads, stocks, sauces, hand rolled pasta, mince, pastry, ice cream and sorbets all evolve into the menu you see today.

Wai will be celebrating its sixth birthday in October. Original owners Jan Rae-Robertson and Alex Boyes, joined by Martin and Megan James in 2004 are excited over the restaurants success over the past six years.

As owners we believe much of Wai’s success comes from our consistency of product due to our core members of staff.

Alex has been the floor manager at Wai for 6 years and is supported by our assistant manager Sarah who has now been with us for 2 years.

The kitchen team continues to move from strength to strength. This summer Martin, Steven and Justin will be celebrating 5 years together at Wai. Mark Southon has recently joined the team after 2 years at Vue De Monde voted Australia’s number one restaurant for the past 2 years running.

Destination NZ recently filmed Martin as part of their destination NZ series which has been aired in Australia with great success. It will be shown here on the Living Channel on 23 September at 7pm.
Martin will also be filming in September for their NZ on a Plate series to be shown later this summer.

We have a new website now up and running. We are very pleased with it and have had great feedback. You can now view all current menus and news at www.wai.net.nz Keep a watch for our Photo Library up soon.

Also new are our Menu boards which look fantastic, Thank you to Ella MacKenzie at The Duplicator.

Martin has been at the Mediterranean Market doing cooking demonstrations again this winter and will hopefully be there again soon.
